Vocations Sunday 2017

The Day of Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood and Consecrated Life this year will be celebrated on Sunday 7 May. It flows from the broader culture of vocation, and is when the universal Church asks the Lord to send more labourers to the harvest as priests and religious. The theme for this year is ‘Called: extra-ordinary’.

Bishop Declan Lang comments on the fall in global executions

Bishop Declan Lang, Bishop of Clifton and the lead Bishop for international affairs, has called on the UK government to prioritise its work against the death penalty and use new trade agreements as an opportunity to promote human rights. Bishop Declan’s call comes as new figures published on Tuesday 11 April, show that there were 1,032 recorded executions in 2016 – a decrease of 37% on the previous year.

Catholic leaders in England united in prayer with the Coptic community after deadly explosions in two Coptic churches in Egypt

"It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we learned of the bombing of St George's Coptic church (Mar Girgis) in the city of Tanta in the Nile Delta, and the explosion outside St Mark’s Coptic church in Alexandria.
