Vocations Sunday 2017

The Day of Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood and Consecrated Life this year will be celebrated on Sunday 7 May. It flows from the broader culture of vocation, and is when the universal Church asks the Lord to send more labourers to the harvest as priests and religious. The theme for this year is ‘Called: extra-ordinary’.

Closure of Heritage Lottery Fund’s Grants for Places of Worship Programme

The Heritage Lottery Fund’s (HLF) Grants for Places of Worship scheme (GPOW) is to be closed in September 2017. This will mean that churches will have to compete for funding against all other heritage bodies and apply to the HLF under their general grant schemes. In effect, parishes will be in competition for funds with major heritage attractions and museums in order to secure funds for repairs - a truly David and Goliath scenario.

Cardinal Nichols: Statement on the extension of the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme

His Eminence Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster and President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, has issued the following statement in response to the Home Secretary Amber Rudd’s announcement that the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS) will be extended with immediate effect to include non-Syrians fleeing the conflict area.
