The English Bishop with a diocese ten times the size of Britain

Pope Francis has appointed an English missionary to be bishop of a diocese that covers 2,000,000 kms2 in Algeria. Bishop-elect John MacWilliam is originally from Wimbledon and was educated in Sussex. He joined the British Army and saw active service in Northern Ireland and Oman before joining the Missionaries of Africa (known as the White Fathers).

Cardinal Nichols and Bishop Wilson offer prayers for victims of Grenfell Tower fire

Cardinal Vincent Nichols and Bishop John Wilson have offered prayers for all those affected by the catastrophic fire that broke out in Grenfell Tower, North Kensington, in the early hours of Wednesday 14 June. "We pray for all the residents of Grenfell Tower. we pray particularly for those who have suffered injury, those who have died, and all the residents who are left without a home today, and the entire community that has been affected."
